Do you still remember the things you did during the height of the pandemic?

Maybe you started cooking or you started exploring becoming a content creator or perhaps the idea of creating your own business crossed your mind. A lot of us surely experienced boredom, wondering what productive things we could do. Well, for Angel Rose, she brought her first ever business into existence – “Noom Child,” an online thrift shop that she started out of boredom during the pandemic.

TURNING THE IMPOSSIBLE, POSSIBLE

Battling with the viral COVID-19, the whole world was put in pause. With schools, restaurants, and malls closed, everyone was obliged to stay at home. The things we usually do outside our homes turned into a list of no-no’s. And for Angel, her love for thrifting was hindered due to safety concerns. Ukay-ukay clothes are pre-loved or secondhanded clothes. And because of the virus that we faced, thrifting is highly discouraged.  But this discouragement was something that Angel used to encourage herself. “Thrifting is very therapeutic for me,” she mentioned as she remembers the times she was restricted to go to ‘ukayans.’ Can you imagine thrifting amid pandemic? It can be worrisome, but Angel found a way to pursue her business in accordance with safety protocols, turning her hobbies into something profitable and making the impossible possible.

It has indeed became a win-win situation for her. She now have more than 500 followers on Instagram and continues to give new life to old clothes. Looking for good quality jeans can be a bit hassle in ukay-ukays, but for Angel, Noom Child’s best sellers are pants! It nearly became a muscle memory for her to go straight to the pants section every time she goes to a thrift store.

IGNITING THE PASSION FOR FASHION!

“My hobby sparked a fire within me,” the Noom Child’s owner described how she started her business. Angel’s story about her passion for thrifting is truly an inspiration, as she juggles business and academics,  “I discovered how difficult it is to juggle business and academics… As a one-man team where I am the one who will buy, wash, model, edit, pack, or simply everything, it was really draining and tiring” there are moments wherein business seems to be not giving, but she learned how to set her priorities straight and to take things slowly. She strives to stand firm to what she started, “it’s just the matter of how you believe and trust your own business and sell.”

Angel shared advice as a very experienced thrifter: "when you are thrifting, it can be exciting, but can also be overwhelming, so take your time". Thrift shopping takes patience, and you don't want to rush your decision. Look through everything, kasi nagtatago ang mga gem sa kasulok-sulukan kaya you must take your time.
